Tobacco is a product processed from the leaves of plants also named Nicotiana tabacum and Nicotiana rustica, although some other members of Nicotiana are also used to a very limited extent (Ministry of Agriculture, 2008).
Tobacco is one of the plantation commodities cultivated in Indonesia. Tobacco farming has been handled by state plantations, private plantations and community plantations. Common characteristics of community plantations are narrow land area, scattered location, labor-intensive, low productivity, traditional and simple cultivation and processing techniques (Heriyanto, 2000).
